This is CEO member, River Logan. We have just completed the book, Things You Wish You Knew Yesterday, written by the architect of the CEO program, Craig Lindvahl. My favorite chapter in this book is titled “Be Careful How You Magnify.” I related to this chapter because I know what it feels like to have to deal with a problem or situation that you have no control over. However, in this chapter, Lindvahl reminds the reader that when you magnify the negatives, you become overwhelmed. Lindvahl talks about the life of a girl named Meggie Zahneis, who has faced and overcome a lot of adversity. He points out that Meggie magnified her opportunities, even though she was born with a neurological disorder called HSANII. Not only that, but Meggie is deaf and has restless leg syndrome. Lindvahl writes, “I wouldn’t blame her a bit for focusing her magnifying glass squarely on her difficulties. She doesn’t though.” He goes on to say that Meggie is tremendously successful in her education and career despite her challenges. We can all learn from Meggie’s success story. All in all, instead of magnifying the challenges out of your control, magnify the opportunities and privileges you do have, and you can accomplish great things.
