Hello this is Richland County CEO member Jace Greenwood. Today, a group of the CEO members will be sharing our favorite life lesson from the book Things You Wish You Knew Yesterday by Craig Lindvahl. The most impactful life lesson I learned in this book is “nobody cares about the storm”. For me, this lesson means if you say you will get something done or promise someone something, they expect it to get done. If you don’t do what is expected and you tell them the story or excuse, they simply won’t care because you didn’t get it done. Craig Lindvahl stated,”Excuse me, but describing the effort is not the same thing as accomplishing the task! If you’ve been given the task to bring a ship safely into port, then bring the ship in safely!”. This life lesson is one that will stick with me through my life because it applies to me. Before CEO, I thought if I put in some effort and I didn’t accomplish something, then it was ok. After reading this book, I know I can’t stop until something is accomplished or I'm disappointed. Not only do I let myself down, I let others down as well. This book has been impactful for every single one of us in CEO.
